SAFARICOM INTERNET AND CALLS GO FREE AMID MAINTANANCE
Safaricom internet and calls became free for users who noticed from 10pm on 26/10/2024 to 27/10/2024 at 5am, with some users posting faster internet speeds of upto 50mbps on mobile devices compared to speeds that are usuallly below 10mbps. It seems a maintanance service went wrong for safaricom who are normally hardliners when it comes to data and calls.
Most users exploited the data claiming it's payback for their expensive moderated data speeds and used terabytes of data in downloads and uploads. the silent night was too noisy for safaricom.Meanwhile, users who noticed their calls still connected without airtime or minutes subscriptions utilized the chance to enjoy their rare opportunity by the high rate service provider. Safaricom, in partnership with the ministry of ICT, KRA and Security agencies are pushing for a move to track mobile devices using registered IMEI to curb tax evasion (suspicious considering safaricoms open sharing of data and user locations with the security agencies) by Kenyan users, a move which many are speculating false play by the government to monitor every citizens move using mobile devices.
